An online store that actually sells — not just a pretty website

Most South African “ecommerce web design” is a template with a shopping cart bolted on. We build proper online stores: conversion-focused design, a checkout tuned for South African buyers, the right payment gateways, live courier rates, and the SEO groundwork to get you found. We’ve done it 400+ times since 2014, for brands from one-product startups to 1,000+ SKU catalogues.

What’s included

Design, development and everything in between

🎨
Conversion-focused design
Custom, on-brand design built around how people actually buy — clear product pages, frictionless checkout, mobile-first from the ground up.
🔧
Store development
Full build on Shopify or WooCommerce — theme setup and customisation, product uploads, collections, variants and apps configured properly.
💳
SA payment gateways
PayFast, Yoco, Ozow, Peach, Stitch, PayGate and Buy-Now-Pay-Later (Payflex, PayJustNow) — set up, integrated and tested.
📦

🔍
SEO groundwork
Clean structure, fast load times, proper meta and schema, and SEO-ready product and category pages so you can rank in Google, not just launch.
POPIA & the legal bits
Privacy policy, cookie consent, VAT-inclusive pricing and the Consumer Protection Act basics — the compliance most template builders skip.
Shopify or WooCommerce?

We build on both — and tell you honestly which fits

Most SA agencies only build WordPress/WooCommerce and steer you there by default. We’re a Shopify Certified Partner who also builds WooCommerce, so the recommendation is based on your business, not our comfort zone.

Shopify
Best if you want to focus on selling rather than maintenance — hosting, security and updates are handled, checkout conversion is proven, and it scales cleanly. The trade-off: pricing is in USD, so budget for the exchange rate.
WooCommerce
Best if you already run WordPress, want deep customisation, full ownership of hosting and data, and no monthly platform fee. The trade-off: you (or we) own the hosting, security and updates.

Real numbers, not “from R4,500”

A standard online store starts at R20,000 excl VAT — a properly built, conversion-ready store, not a stripped template. Larger or more complex builds (big catalogues, B2B, custom integrations) are quoted on scope. Existing-store support is R600/hr excl VAT. Every quote is fixed and itemised: 50% deposit to start, 50% on completion. No scope creep, no surprises. The cheap “from R4,500” sites cost you later in lost sales, weak checkout and a rebuild — we’ve fixed enough of them to know.

Where we work

eCommerce web design across South Africa

We’re based in Paarl in the Western Cape and build online stores for businesses across the whole country — Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Gqeberha and everywhere in between. Ecommerce is online work, so the whole process — briefing, design reviews, training and support — runs over video call, email and WhatsApp, wherever you are. You get the same senior team and the same honest process whether you’re down the road or in another province.

Questions

eCommerce web design in SA, answered

How much does an eCommerce website cost in South Africa?
A standard online store starts at R20,000 excl VAT — a properly built, conversion-ready store on Shopify or WooCommerce. Larger catalogues, B2B or custom integrations are quoted on scope. That’s more than the “from R4,500” template shops, and deliberately so: those sites usually need rebuilding within a year. You can see the full running-cost picture with our profit calculator.
Do you build eCommerce websites in Johannesburg and Cape Town?
Yes — and Pretoria, Durban, Gqeberha and the rest of South Africa. We’re based in Paarl (Western Cape), but the entire build runs online, so where you’re based makes no difference to the quality or the process. We’ve built stores for clients right across the country.
Should I build on Shopify or WooCommerce?
Shopify if you want to focus on selling and let the platform handle hosting, security and updates (pricing is in USD, so budget for the exchange rate). WooCommerce if you’re already on WordPress, want deep customisation and no monthly platform fee (you own the hosting and upkeep). We build both and recommend based on your business. Our Platform Picker gives you a quick answer.
How long does it take to build an online store?
A standard store takes about 4–6 weeks from briefing to launch, with your first design draft usually within 10 working days of the deposit. Larger or more complex builds (B2B, custom features, big catalogues) run 6–10 weeks. You get a clear timeline in your quote.
Which South African payment gateways do you integrate?
All the main ones — PayFast, Yoco, Ozow, Peach Payments, Stitch and PayGate — plus Buy-Now-Pay-Later options like Payflex and PayJustNow. We handle the gateway application, integration and test transactions. Want to compare fees first? Use our gateway comparator.
Will my store be built to rank on Google?
Yes. Every build includes the SEO groundwork — clean site structure, fast load times, proper meta and schema, and SEO-ready product and category pages. We’re ranked #1 in South Africa for “ecommerce development” ourselves, so it’s not an afterthought. New to the terms? Our eCommerce glossary explains the jargon.
