Takealot fee and profit calculator
Work out what you really keep on a Takealot sale: success fee, fulfilment fee, the R400 subscription, storage, returns and ads, with VAT handled properly. Then compare it with selling the same product on your own store. Everything runs in your browser. For the full picture, read how to sell on Takealot.

Fee presets are typical 2026 ranges from seller-reported data. Takealot does not publish a single public rate card, and rates can differ by sub-category and price. Takealot also adds VAT to its fees: if you are VAT-registered you claim it back, and if not the calculator includes it as a cost.
How the calculator works
| Cost | How it is charged | In the calculator |
|---|---|---|
| Success fee | % of the VAT-inclusive selling price, set by category | Category preset or your own % |
| Fulfilment fee | Per unit, by size and weight | Size preset or your own figure |
| Subscription | R400 a month (ex VAT) per seller account | Spread over your monthly units |
| Storage | Free for stock that sells within about 35 days; charged on older stock | Your own per-unit figure |
| VAT | 15% on your sale and on Takealot’s fees | Handled for VAT vendors and non-vendors |
| Returns, inbound, ads | Your costs, not Takealot fees | Optional inputs |
Questions
Is the Takealot success fee charged on the price incl. VAT?
Yes. The success fee is a percentage of the VAT-inclusive selling price, excluding delivery. On a R599 product at 12%, that is R71.88 before VAT on the fee.
What does selling on Takealot cost per month?
The seller subscription is R400 a month excluding VAT per seller account. Success, fulfilment and storage fees come on top and depend on what you sell.
Why is my result different from Takealot’s Fee Estimator?
The Fee Estimator covers the success and fulfilment fee for a specific listing. This calculator adds the subscription, storage, VAT, returns, inbound shipping, ads and your product cost, so you see profit rather than fees only.
Should I sell on Takealot or my own store?
Usually both. Takealot brings traffic; your own store keeps more per sale and owns the customer. Use the comparison above, then read own store vs Takealot.
